A job interview is a critical communication task that often challenges candidates who are unprepared. This lack of preparation becomes even more apparent when facing competency-based interviews, where candidates are evaluated on specific knowledge, skills, behaviours, and attitudes. Additionally, candidates often struggle to anticipate questions about their career history, strengths, and weaknesses, leaving gaps in their responses that could hurt their performance.
To address these challenges, candidates people recognize the importance of planning, practice and preparation, what we call the 3 Ps. They should plan ahead about potential questions that they would be asked, practice the responses to these questions and prepare for the interview as well as the possibility of other things they did not anticipate.
