Money Matters Matter for Children

Sometimes when my colleagues and I talk about teaching children about financial planning, some parents and educators are concerned – they tell us to allow the children to enjoy the innocence of their youth and not worry about things like “money” until they are older. This I do not agree with.

Other parents are concerned that children should not be learning about deal making and making wealth – they consider such conversations too “materialistic” and do not think children should be exposed to this.

I tend to agree – too many board games and books focusing only on this narrow aspect of money matters. I believe that it is about striking the balance and offering learning resources and interventions that go beyond just “money making”.

In today’s podcast I explore one of my favourite subjects – financial literacy and I share some of my personal stories and experiences to drive home the important point – that money matters matter especially for children.
